SYMMES TOWNSHIP, OHIO – Senior Bobby Capobianco is 14 points shy of setting a new all time basketball scoring record on Tuesday night when Loveland High School hosts Wilmington. With Capobianco's 16 points against Harrison Friday, and 23 points in the Tigers 70-50 win over Sycamore on Saturday, he is within reach of the school record of 1,403 set by Kevin Schappell (1998-2002).
Capobianco has already broken several records this season. He holds most career rebounds (old record 702, he has 767), free throws made (old record 290, he has 323), and blocks (old record 139, he has 171). He will play basketball next year at Indiana University.
Tuesday night is also senior night, when senior athletes playing winter sports, and their parents, are recognized.
Loveland has a perfect 7-0 season in the elite Buckeye Division of the Fort Ancient Valley Conference (FAVC) and is # 5 in the City Coach's Poll among all Div. I teams. Loveland is 13-2 for the season, has won 13 straight games, and has a 2 game lead over 2nd place Anderson.
Wilmington (8-0, 15-1) is currently the #3 rated Div. II team in the Coaches poll. and sits on top of the Cardinal Division of the FAVC. Their only loss was mid-season against Lakota West (64-68) who is currently #8 in the Div. I Coaches Poll. On January 24, Wilmington beat Elder (60-55) who is #15 in the current Div. I Coaches Poll. Wilmington also beat (# 10 Div. I) Walnut Hills (11-3), 74-65 on Jan. 9.
Junior, Jordan Berlin (6'3”) leads Wilmington in scoring 15.4 points per-game. He averages, 3.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds. Six foot Junior, Quinten Rollins averages 13.4 points and 4.8 rebounds.
For Loveland, Capobianco (6'8, 235lb.) averages17.6 points per-game and 8.6 rebounds. Senior Brian Wozniak (6'6 225lb.) is scoring10.2 points per-game, and averages 4.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists. Senior Chris Stahl (6'3, 190 lb.) averages 8.6 points and 3.3 rebounds.
Wilmington scores 62.2 points per game and makes 45.2% of their shots from the field. Loveland is averaging 58.9 and puts in 43.8 per-cent of their shots from the field.
So, on Tuesday, its Senior night, a showdown between the FAVC's Buckeye and Cardinal Divisions, and possibly a record setting night for Capobianco. Game times are: Freshman at 4:30 PM, JV at 6 PM, and Varsity at 7:30 PM. #1 Tiger Trail.
