Local governments seek stimulus $$$'s

Loveland Magazine has gleaned the following information from the "State of Ohio Federal Stimulus Initiative" data-base to determine what federal stimulus monies local governments and school districts have requested.

City of Loveland

• $590,000 -  Downtown Loveland Job Creation and Revitalization, Storm sewer improvements, 300 space public parking lots & streetscape improvements (sidewalk, street lights, furnishings, and handicap ramps) 215 jobs
• $2,420,500 -  Loveland Commerce Park Water Tower (Construction of a 1.0 million gallon elevated water storage tank is needed to provide adequate fire flow to the businesses in the Loveland Commerce Park. There are over 30 businesses employing over 1,000 individuals at the Commerce Park that are dependent on sufficient fire flow for the preservation of their property and livelihood. In addition, approximately 10 construction jobs would be filled during the construction of the water storage tank.) 1010 jobs

Loveland City School District

• $120,000 -  Upgrade lighting at Loveland Elementary School (Replace fluorescent lighting fixtures in classrooms, hallways offices locker rooms and cafeteria including motion and infrared sensors.) 4 jobs

• $1,000,000 -  Montgomery Road, Streetscape (Montgomery Road (State Route 22 & 3) has just been widened to seven lanes in front of Harper's Point Shopping Center and Harper's Station Shopping Center. The businesses in both shopping centers are suffering as a result of the construction and are having a difficult time recovering under the current financial climate. We believe that a streetscape project that includes sidewalks, lighting, and landscaping the area would attract customers.) 15 jobs

City of Montgomery

• $30,000 -  Pedestrian/bicyclist stopover and relaxation areas (installation of seating areas for pedestrians and those using mass (bus) transit along Montgomery Road (US 22). In addition to seating areas the project will also provide improved lighting and drinking fountains.) 5 jobs
• $50,000 -  Pioneer Park Shore Line stabilization (project will restore natural habitat along the shoreline of a retention basin (pond) in the City owned Pioneer Park.) 8 jobs

While the building is known as the Yost Tavern it is not currently utilized as a tavern and in fact is zoned for retail use however the renovations are necessary to support ongoing retail use as this building is approximately 175 years old, is protected by Landmark designation and needs work to the second floor and roof to allow the building to remain in use as either a City owned and leased building in the Montgomery Heritage District.) 8 jobs
