On Saturday, April 25 you can learn about gardening while volunteering at Grailville, a retreat and program center located on an organic farm just outside of Loveland. Learn various aspects of growing vegetables that you can apply in your own backyard. Participants will plant early garden and greenhouse crops, including onions, kale, spinach, chard, tomatoes, and peppers with gardener Mary Lu Lageman. You can stay for a lunch and Grailville tour. Volunteer activities are from 9 AM - Noon, with the lunch and tour immediately following.
Grailville Garden Volunteer Days are held on the last Saturday of each month through October. Volunteers can work in Grailville’s kitchen and herb gardens where produce is grown to serve guests of the Grailville Retreat Center. The 60-year-old kitchen garden has been organically certified since 1992.
Bring gloves, water bottle, sunscreen, hat and footwear that can get dirty and a mid-morning snack. Tools will be supplied. No experience needed; you can join for one day or the whole season.
The volunteer activity is free; the optional tour and lunch is $15. Advance reservation required for lunch. To reserve a spot or for more information contact Grailville at (513) 683-2340 or www.grailville.org.
Grailville’s Garden Volunteer Days are part of the Backyard Family Garden Project in collaboration with Granny's Garden School, Turner Farm, Gorman Farm, and Marvin’s Gardens. The Backyard Family Garden Project encourages families to develop vegetable and flower gardens in their own backyards and share the surplus with neighbors. Volunteers are also welcome to come on other days or for other hours.
