The Orchestra will present music that will appeal to a wide range of tastes. A moving tribute to those who have paid the ultimate price of war, Hymn to the Fallen by John Williams contrasts with Morton Gould’s American Salute as the Orchestra remembers the ranks of veterans of all branches of the armed services. The program continues its study of contrasts with the ravishing slow movement from Rachmaninoff’s Second Symphony paired with the InfernalDance and Finale from Stravinsky’s Firebird. Be prepared to finish this set breathless!
As is traditional, the Blue Ash Youth Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dale Swisher, will also perform. Playing selections from the music of the Lord of the Rings by Howard Shore, Sibelius’s Finlandia and the Toccata and Fugue in G Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach, these young musicians will amaze you with their talent and vitality. The concert will include the annual Armed Forces Salute, played by both Orchestras, where our many area veterans are honored for their service to our country.
