High School sports at this time of year is dominated in the press by football, and soccer. But, as Lee Corso would put it… “not so fast my friends!” The Loveland High School Cross Country teams held their annual home meet at Grailville on Saturday, and made the most of their opportunity. Specifically, the girls who edged out the Anderson Redskins to win the Tiger Invitational. The boys team finished in 3rd.
The Lady Tigers were led on the course by seniors Sarah Fisher and Laura Matacia who both completed the course in under 20 and a half minutes. The Tigers also had a strong showing by Mary Roman, Sarah Fisher, as well as Anna Wilson. The Tigers who are led by veteran coach Deb Pomeroy continued to defend home turf well, as they have in the past. The Tigers are currently ranked 7th in the city, and will look to up that ranking at the Milford Invitational on Saturday September 19th at 10 AM.
The Boys, under first year head coach Mike Smith had a solid showing on Saturday. The Tigers were led by stand-out senior Will Fisher, who completed the course in under 18 minutes. The Tigers also got support from Tyler Glenn, Ryan Fisher, Matt Garbarino, and Dan Rapaske. The boys are currently the 10th ranked team in the city, and will also be competing in the Milford Invitational on Saturday. They run at 9 AM.
