Afghanistan -- A soldier from Loveland in southern Ohio was among 11 U.S. troops and three U.S. law-enforcement officials killed in two helicopter crashes Monday, one of the war's heaviest one-day losses for U.S. forces, military officials said.
The U.S. Department of Defense said Marine Capt. David S. Mitchell, 30,
of Loveland, Ohio, died Monday while supporting combat operations in
Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the Marine Light
Attack Helicopter Squadron 367, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine
Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Camp
Pendleton, Calif.
