Here are my awards to give to the players and coaches for the 2009 seasonby Chris Shoals
I think this one was the easiest to select out of all of them. If you take a look from top to bottom in the FAVC, nobody complied as many stats in so many categories such as rushing yards, passing yards, receiving yards, touchdowns, interceptions, and tackles. He quite simply is the most valuable player on this team. He is an athlete and a person off the field that rarely comes around.
Offensive Player of the Year:
Evan Beck and Alex Emerick
The reason I selected these two is because if their unselfishness. Any of these two talented receivers could have complained to coach that they did not get the ball enough. In this offense, throwing is very odd, and these receivers did an impeccable job all season of playing their position, and adapting to the running style.
Defensive Player of the Year:
Randy Mullins
Randy had a superb year, leading the FAVC in sacks for weeks, and ended up with a team high 5.5 sacks. He always flying around the ball, and made big plays when Loveland needed a defensive stop.
Coach of the Year: Jeff Shepherd (Offensive Line and Offensive Coordinator)
Coach Shepherd simply taught this team to pound the rock. They ran the ball well all year, and the offensive line was superb. Helped by coach Brian Morra, and Mike Jones, this offense had an excellent year. Coach Shepherd also was able to call plays that got the ball in the hands of his playmakers, and make an impact.
Biggest Disappointment:
Harrison Game
This was a heart breaking game that I’m sure every player wishes they had back. A triple overtime thriller in the cold rain was hard to swallow. This was a winnable game for the Tigers, that saw their chances of a winning record slip through the cracks.
Biggest Surprise:
The Throttling of Glen Este on Homecoming
I think that everyone thought Glen Este was going to play Loveland tough, but Loveland absolutely destroyed the Trojans. Form beginning to end, Loveland showed they were the better team by far.
Best Moment:
Beating Milford
Loveland had nothing but pride to play for, and boy did they show it. Loveland played hard for Seth Mitchell, and reclaimed the bell.
Co- Most Outstanding Special Teams Players:
Joel Mary & Matt Eltringham
They were simply the best on the unit coached by former Bengal Keith Rucker. Eltringham was consistent, and one of the strongest kickers we saw all year, and Mary was the best kick-off player of the field.
