As a Cincinnati fan, I love and support my Bengals. But, it’s hard to stay that way when time after time I am continually abused by the team. I’ve come to accept that with Mike Brown, the Bengals will never win a Super Bowl, but the thing that bothers me the most, is the blackout of Sunday’s game. The Bengals have punished the fans for not going to the game.
It’s pretty ludicrous to expect a sellout now. Especially when it’s to see the 2-8 Bengals give up 49 points in a loss against the now 2-8 Buffalo Bills. Also it’s tough to justify going when the Cincinnati Reds have won a game more recently than the Bengals.
But, let’s imagine that I’m still enough of a hardcore fan to go see the game. If I buy a below average ticket for myself I’m down $73 for the ticket and another $9 for “convenience” fees. This is for a ticket that is in the “nosebleeds” near the goal line. After parking and a modest snack, that’s about $100 for one person. I don’t care what economy you’re in, that’s expensive.
So not wanting to shell out $100 to go, I’d like to watch it on T.V. But because 65,000 people aren’t willing to get scammed and give up the majority of their Sunday, the Bengals have punished their waning amount of fans by not letting us see the game on T.V. They should be thanking us for even wanting to watch.
