The Lionhearts Junior Race Team has announce that one of their Elite Team Members, Spencer Petrov from Deerfield Township, has been invited to attend the USA Cycling Cyclocross Development Camp in Helena, Montana.
Petrov will be amongst the top riders in the nation to attend the Cyclocross Development Camp to focus on cycling specific training: skills, drills, cross-training, annual planning, metal training, and team building for the coming season.
Petrov won the Silver Medal by finishing in second place in his age group at the US National Cyclocross Championships (January 2012) in Madison Wisconsin. In 2011, The Lionhearts Junior Race Team had over 50 members competing in bike races throughout the Mid-West, including a US National Cyclocross Champion in the female 10-12 age group.
The 2011 inaugural Cyclocross Development Camp was very successful. Eleven of the sixteen summer camp participants went on to attend the American team at EuroCrossCamp 2011 in Belgium. From those riders, 13 of the 14 riders from EuroCrossCamp placed in the top 13 at US Nationals and three of the five juniors who made the USA Worlds Team came through this development camp.
Cyclocross is a form of bicycle racing. Races typically take place in the autumn and winter (September–January), and consists of many laps of a short (2.5–3.5 km or 1.5–2 mile) course featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles requiring the rider to quickly dismount, carry the bike while navigating the obstruction and remount.
