The Lakeview United Church of Christ in Maineville, Ohio, has announced it will present a two-night event featuring Noel Paul Stookey, of the famous Peter, Paul and Mary trio, October 19 and 20, 2012.
The first evening is One Light, Many Candles: a Multi-Faith Presentation in Word and Song presented by Noel Paul and his wife, Rev. Elizabeth Stookey. They have put together a program of sacred readings from many religious faiths and spiritual disciplines interspersed with original music by Noel Paul. Friday ticket holders will be treated to a reception with Betty and Noel Paul. The reception time will also be an opportunity to network with people in the community who share a desire to connect across lines of faith and spiritual beliefs.
The following evening, An Intimate Evening with Noel Paul Stookey, of Peter, Paul & Mary, Noel Paul will per- form a concert of his original songs with one or two from his days with Peter, Paul and Mary. Both events will be offered in the intimate setting of the church sanctuary.
Proceeds of the two events will be divided between a Presenters Fund to bring in future presenters/speakers/artists, and ongoing neighborhood missions of Lakeview UCC.
Lakeview UCC’s pastor, Rev. Jennifer Bannerman, happened to see a performance of Peter, Paul and Mary on a local public TV station. She decided to go to her computer to find out where the two survivors of the trio were and what projects they were into. This is how she learned of the One Light, Many Candles. Pastor Jennifer sent an email to inquire about bringing the program to Maineville. “I was surprised to learn that Betty was a UCC minister like me!” said Jennifer. “We are excited to have them come and share with the community the same open-minded message of unity that our own church promotes.”
Tickets go on sale August 5 by logging onto the church’s website: www.lakeviewucc.com. Friday’s tickets are $25/person.
Saturday’s tickets are $45/person. A discount is offered for both evenings of $60/person. Both evenings are general seating in the sanctuary.
