Loveland Ambassador Girl Scout Troop 47555 celebrated their 13th and final year of Girl Scouting by taking a four-day cruise to the Bahamas where they visited the S.T.R.A.W. Center for Young Women in Nassau, Grand Bahamas. They combined the cruise with their service project to benefit the S.T.R.A.W. Center where the troop was able to present the center with a new laptop, a digital camera, and toiletries for young women. The S.T.R.A.W. Center serves girls ages 12 -18 years old, providing after-school homework assistance, sports programs, and conferences to educate them about social issues while building leadership skills. The troop wanted to support this center because the centers programs reflect the goals of Girl Scouting, and serving girls of similar ages.
Over the past five years the troop has worked on several projects to fund this trip including: cookie sales, making corsages for the Father/Daughter Dances, baking and selling homemade dog biscuits at the Loveland Craft Show, and hosting theLoveland Community Spring Tea Party for the past two years.
Danielle Hollingsworth said, "The cultural exchange between the troop and girls from the center was invaluable. They strengthened troop bonds, enjoyed snorkeling, experienced international cultures, and helped others while forminglifelong memories."
Hollingsworth asks, "Do you know a girl, grade K-12, who is interested in becoming a Girl Scout or an adult looking for some volunteer work that really makes a difference?" She asid that Fall is a great time to join.
