The Milford Board of Education will be hosting a Listening Session on Thursday, November 29, in the Milford High School Cafeteria, from 7-9 p.m.
With the failure of its operating levy, the Board must decide on budget reductions for this school year and subsequent school years. They must also make a decision by January, if they are going to place another operating levy on the ballot in May, 2013.
If a levy passes any time in 2013, the first collection will not be until January 2014, which means the district has lost a whole year of revenue. The district is faced with two choices: ask for a higher millage amount to make up for this lost revenue or make budget reductions and ask for a 4.5 mill levy again. In order to ask for a 4.5 mill levy in May, the district must cut $750,000 from its budget this school year and another $2.5 million across the entire budget for the next four years.
