The oil recycling program began seven years ago and has steadily increased in popularity. The used oil is recycled to fuel three furnaces that keep the facility warm and saves the department about $5,000 in heating costs per year. Each furnace holds 250 gallons of the recycled product which is typically obtained from local residents and oil changes performed at the county garage.
Clermont County citizens are invited to drop-off acceptable types of used oil Monday through Friday, between 6:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the Fleet Maintenance garage, located at 4005 Filager Road in Batavia. Call (513) 732-7775 for more information about the oil recycling program. They accept motor, cooking, diesel, and fuel oil. The used oil must be stored in a seal tight container that does not leak.
