Theft Suspect May be Operating in Loveland

Loveland Police has received information from Miami Township Police detectives that a theft suspect may be operating in the Loveland area. According to the police, this suspect may have been working in the White Pillars subdivision. The female goes door to door offering babysitting services. She explains that she is a student at the University of Kentucky who is home for the summer. Once inside a residence she steals any valuables that she can find. In one of the offenses the total taken was $20,000. There have also been offenses in Indian Hill.

Police Chief Tim Sabransky asks, "Please notify Loveland Police immediately if something like this occurs in your neighborhood."

Tips:

• Do not let strangers into your home.
• Talk to them from the doorway or if you are completely unsure of them, speak through the door or don’t answer the door.
• If you become suspicious at any point, call the police. Please be prepared to give the dispatcher a description of the person and any vehicle he/she may be driving.

New Home for “Yily”

 

Giglia “Yily” Pages hosted a Taste of Venezuela a few weeks ago in her new art studios.

 

Giglia “Yily” Pages has opened a new art studio in Loveland. It is located in the Loveland Gateway Center at the corner of West Loveland Avenue and Loveland Madeira Road. Right across the street from the “Wippy Dip” at 600 West Loveland Avenue. She moved into a larger location from her former studio in the Loveland Artists Studios on Main. She is only about a hundred yards from her former studio.

Pages teaches individual art classes, has art camps, fashion weeks, arts and craft parties, and home school classes.

Pages was born in Caracas, Venezuela and at age 17 she traveled to Madrid to study painting at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Moncloa. She later traveled to Italy, where she furthered her studies at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome.

She says she is inspired by the esoteric and the metaphysical, elements visible in much of her work. She has lived in the U.S. since 1996.

She has named her new studio, "For The Love of Art."

Fallis Road Closes on Monday

Beginning Monday, July 16, Fallis Road will be closed for water main replacement. This will be a hard closure, which means only residents who live on Fallis Road itself will be permitted to travel on Fallis Road in the construction area to get into and out of homes. The hard closure means that the construction company will be placing equipment or barricades across the road that are not passable. This is to prevent drivers from trying to go through and possibly striking construction equipment or falling into trenches. The construction is slated to be complete before the beginning of the school year.

Loveland World Choir Concert Moved Indoors to New Hope Baptist Church

Loveland, Ohio - Because of threatened rain, the Loveland World Choir Games Friendship Concert for Friday has moved indoors to the New Hope Baptist Church. at 1401 Loveland Madeira Road.

The concert was set to be in Loveland's Nisbet Park.

The free concert begins at 3:30 PM and ends at 5 PM on Friday July 13.

The seating capacity is 700 and the church is hoping to hook up a video feed into their gymnasium to increase the capacity to 800-850.

Parking is expected to fill the lot at the church, however shuttle services will be available at the parking lots of the Loveland Primary and Elementary schools, and Castle Skateland, just a few blocks from the church.

There is no admission charge, and tickets are not required.

The choirs that will perform are A Cappella Showcase from Canada, Guilin Aiyi Chorus from China, Dearborn Community Chorus from Dearborn, Michigan, and the Memorial High School Choir.

 

 

Businesses Say State Misusing Revenue

Carney warned justices that a ruling in favor of the businesses threatens to “bring down the entire tax system.”

More than $150 million in state revenue per year is at stake in a pair of cases before the Ohio Supreme Court that question the legality of a government tax and a motor-vehicle fee.

Loveland World Choir Concert May Move Indoors

The Loveland Area Chamber of Commerce is doing the event planning for the World Choir Games Friendship concert here in Loveland on Friday afternoon. They have made “in case of rain” venue arrangements.

The concert is currently scheduled to be held outdoors in Nisbet Park Friday July 13.

With a 50 per-cent chance of rain showers predicted for Friday, they have made arrangements to move the concert to New Hope Baptist Church at 1401 Loveland Madeira Road. The seating capacity is 700 and the church is hoping to hook up a video feed into their gymnasium to increase the capacity to 800-850.

A final decision will be made tomorrow morning on moving the concert indoors.

Loveland Athletic Boosters Annual Golf Outing July 23

The Loveland Athletic Boosters Annual Golf Outing will be held on Monday, July 23, at The Oasis Golf Club and Conference Center.   You can put together your own foursome for the outing or signing up for the outing as an individual player;  You can also ask your employer or a business in the community to be a Corporate Sponsor; and/or contributing a raffle prize to the event.

The Boosters have recently undergone an important new project that will benefit all students and teachers in the Loveland School District called the Loveland Health and Fitness Center. The 6,500 square foot facility will be attached to Loveland High School and will be one of the largest in Cincinnati.  Construction is scheduled to start August 1, 2012. The construction of the new addition to Loveland High School will be entirely paid for by the Boosters

Loveland Elementary Principal Hired by Milford

Loveland Elementary School Principal, Doug Savage, has resigned to become the new Principal of Boyd E. Smith Elementary School in Milford. Savage will begin his new position on August 1. 

Prior to his nine years as Principal in Loveland, Savage started his administrative career at Boyd. He was an assistant principal for two years at Boyd (2001-2003) and a school psychologist in Milford for four years.

According to Loveland Superintendent, Dr. John Marschhausen, the District has already begun its search for a Principal to replace Mr. Savage.

She attends Ohio University and is a graduate of Loveland High School. Coming soon, is video from the World Choir Games performances at Epiphany United Methodist Church last Friday evening. Gretchen interviewed many of the international visitors that were in Loveland.

 

These two HD videos were shot and edited for Loveland Magazine by Gretchen and Bob Kessler. They walked the parade route, and interviewed people enjoying the festivities, including Captain Andrew Knapp with the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department who was preparing to set off the annual fireworks show.

World Choir Games in Loveland This Friday

Loveland World Choir Concert Moved Indoors to New Hope Baptist Church

 

One of the “Friendship Concerts” of the World Choir Games will be Friday, July 13 from 3:30 until 5 PM at the amphitheater in Loveland’s Nisbet Park. The park is located in Historic Downtown along the Loveland Bike Trail and the Little Miami River.

Choirs from China , Canada , Michigan and one from Memorial High School will be performing. The concert is free and open to the public.

Computer and TV Recycling Drop-Off Open for Special Saturday Collection – July 14

The Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District (District) will be collecting computer equipment and televisions from Hamilton County residents on Saturday, July 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the CSI/Republic Transfer Station located at 10751 Evendale Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio 45241. This program will not be open any other Saturday in July. 

Special weekend collection times are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the following Saturdays:

• August 11
• September 8
• October 13

Hamilton County residents can also drop-off their unwanted computer equipment/TVs Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. through October 31, excluding holidays. 

Residents must bring proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill in order to participate. This program prohibits the acceptance of computer equipment/TVs from businesses, churches, schools and non-profit organizations. 

Acceptable Items Include: CPUs, hard drives, personal copiers, docking stations, monitors, scanners, printers, cellular telephones, televisions, hard drives, tape and disk drives, VCR and DVD players, VHS tapes, circuit boards, cables, main frames, servers, terminals, fax machines, PDAs, back up batteries, chips, keyboards, mice, modems, computer speakers, CD Rom drives and laptops.

Loveland Middle School’s Connor Thomas Wins U S Track & Field 400m Dash

Loveland Middle School student-athlete Connor Thomas just followed up a successful CYO outdoor track and field season with two impressive meets in early June. On June 9 Thomas swept the Hershey’s Regional Track Meet in the 100m, 200m, and Long Jump to advance to the state finals at Jesse Owen’s Stadium in Columbus July, 7. Only individual event winners move from the regional stage to the state meet.
 
On June 10 Thomas won his first United States Track & Field (USATF) 400m Dash at age 13 in the competitive Youth Division (13-14).
 
This past Spring Thomas was named to three CYO All-Star teams; the 400m, 4 X 200m, and 4 X 400.  He anchored the winning 4 X 400 to a club record and the Division I City Championship.  He was also named Newcomer of The Year as a 7th grader on his 7th-8th SMAC Club Track Team.  Thomas had previously been named to four other All-Star teams as a 5th and 6th grader; the 75m Dash, 100m Dash, and the 200m Dash twice.
 
Thomas also just made the National Junior Honor Society at Loveland Middle School.

Columbus and the Jesse Owens Track Venue were beautiful, except it was 102 degrees and 112 degrees on the track.  A meet organizer announced it was the hottest state meet they have hosted. Thomas’ goal as a 13-year-old in the 13/14-year-old group was to make it through all heats and flights and score in the finals. Racing against older 14-year-olds, he was really running against grown men at the state meet, but finished 4th in the 200m, 5th in the Long Jump, and 7th in the 100m.  He competed well at 13, but the quality of athletes at the state level was very impressive as was their physical size.  Next year Thomas will be in the highest age group in all three leagues he ran races in this year.

Epiphany Wins Silver Diploma in World Choir Games

Epiphany United Methodist Church Voices in Praise competed last week at the World Choir Games. Choir Director, Chester Imhausen said, “We were very pleased with the results.”

The choir competed in the Open Competition, in the Musica Sacra Category. The choir received the highest Silver Diploma in that Category.

Imhausen said, “We were 5 points away from the choir receiving the lowest Diploma in Gold. This was very pleasing to us, and we couldn't have asked for more.” He said that the choirs in Gold were all outstanding, and mostly International choirs.

Imhausen thanked Alex Gartner, Associate Director for his performance, and the Voices in Praise for their effort in achieving this award.

Six Trees, was just a concept I had regarding color usage and a concept of uniformity. The trees we see are the result of the roots we seldom see, just like us. What a person sees is where we come from.

 

Tyrion works from the same original concept, but this time it's our influence. Sometimes the biggest features don't cast the greatest shadow.

 

Six Yellow Trees is a variation of Six Trees.

 

Michael Paolercio has been in the Loveland Artists Studios on Main for going on four years years, and a member of the Loveland Arts Council. He was the Grand Prize winner of the 2010 Nancy Ford Cone Art Exhibition at the Greater Loveland Historical Society and Museum with my work on permanent exhibit at the Loveland Historical Museum. He has also had paintings into juried exhibitions such as the prestigious International Colored Pencil Society Show and the Rising Sun Juried Art Shows.

Paolercio is a self-taught artist who first picked up a pencil in July of 2004. He is in Studio 205 in the Loveland Art Studios on Main and have lived in Sycamore Township for more than 25 years. A native Cincinnatian, he grew up in Bridgetown, attended La Salle High School and a 1973 graduate of the University of Dayton.

Loveland High School's Hunter Ewing to Play at Bluffton U.

Loveland, Ohio - Hunter Ewing from Loveland High School has committed to play baseball for Bluffton University for the Fall of 2012. Hunter is a Right Handed Pitcher who played Varsity for 2 years at Loveland High School. Hunter plays Select Baseball for the STIX Premier who competes against high level select teams from across the country.

Disapointed With Jean Shmidt

Dear Loveland Magazine Readers,

I'm disappointed that my representative continues to use false and misleading statements to attack a law after she had seven years in Congress to offer a plan that she considers acceptable.The 800,000 figure she uses is blatantly false. It's primarily because workers wouldn't have to work because the new law expands health care coverage. That means people working most for health insurance would either reduce their hours or leave the job market altogether through their own choice.

I'm disappointed that she has sponsored only 11 bills during her seven years in Congress, nine of which occurred in May of this year after she lost her primary. I'm also disappointed that she has yet to show any effort to pay back the $500,000 to the Turkish Coalition of America, something she was ordered to do by the house ethics committee.

Sorry Mrs. Schmidt, you're an embarrassment to your district. Enjoy the last few months of your stint in DC, and those autographed Obama SOTU speeches that you waited in line to get.
