Loveland Police Issue Crime Alert

The Loveland Police Division is investigating two recent burglaries that may be related to a series of 12 burglaries that occurred in Miami Township.  Additional jurisdictions in Clermont, Hamilton, and Warren counties have also experienced burglaries with similarities and may have been committed by the same individuals.

According to the department, the method of operation for these crimes involves someone knocking on the door or ringing the door bell.  When no one answers the intruders force entry into the home, usually at the back door or a rear window, and remove jewelry and firearms.  In three of these instances residents were at home and surprised the would-be burglar when they attempted entry. In all of these burglaries there have been no vehicles in the victim’s driveway and/or packages have been left in plain view at the front door giving clues that no one is at home.  If someone does answer the door the offenders give an excuse why they are at the residence, such as, “I’m looking for Amanda, I must have the wrong address” and then they leave.

A dark gray, older conversion van has been seen at one of the burglaries.  The van has a high top roof with side windows and a window in the in the high top above the windshield.  The vehicle was operated by a white female with blonde hair.  A male, described as being in his 30’s, thin build, less than 6’ tall with short light brown hair was also at the scene.

Residents on the east side of Loveland should be especially aware, according to the department. If anyone observes this vehicle or other suspicious activity they are urged to call 911 or police dispatch at 677-7000 immediately.

Computer and TV Recycling Drop-Off Open for Final Saturday Collection

Hamilton County Program Ends October 31 for 2012 Season

Hamilton County residents interested in recycling their unwanted computer equipment and televisions have just a few more weeks to participate in the free collection event, organized by the Hamilton County Recycling and Solid Waste District.

Hamilton County residents can drop-off their unwanted computer equipment/TVs Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the CSI/Republic Transfer Station located at 10751 Evendale Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio 45241 through October 31. The program will also be open on Saturday, October 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for special weekend collection.

The Computer and TV Recycling Drop-Off program will close for the season on October 31, 2012 and will re-open in the spring of 2013.

Residents must bring proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or utility bill in order to participate. This program prohibits the acceptance of computer equipment/TVs from businesses, churches, schools and non-profit organizations. 

Acceptable Items Include: CPUs, hard drives, personal copiers, docking stations, monitors, scanners, printers, cellular telephones, televisions, hard drives, tape and disk drives, VCR and DVD players, VHS tapes, circuit boards, cables, main frames, servers, terminals, fax machines, PDAs, back up batteries, chips, keyboards, mice, modems, computer speakers, CD Rom drives and laptops.

Dems Respond to Husted Decision to Fight Early Voting

 Obama for America released the following statement from General Counsel Bob Bauer in reaction to the Ohio Secretary of State seeking an appeal of the 6^th Circuit Court decision:

"There is no justification for the state’s arbitrary actions this year in trying to deny the vast majority of its voters access to open polling places for the last three days before the election. This has been the unanimous conclusion of the courts that have considered this case. 

"The Secretary of State has now chosen to extend the litigation and to ask the United States Supreme Court to intervene just four weeks before the election.  We have no reason to believe that he will meet with any more success now than before.  

"It is a shame that the Secretary would not have committed his office's energy instead to implementing the outstanding court orders and administering the orderly and effective early voting process that has served Ohio voters so well since 2005."

Local Scouts Meet With Sen. Brown

In June, 50 members of the Loveland Girl Scout Service Unit traveled to Washington D.C. to attend Rock the Mall, a celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouts. During the trip, the group visited the White House, Arlington National Cemetery, Ford's Theater, the Smithsonian Museums, and the U.S. Capitol.

While visiting the Capitol, the group met with Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown who spent time talking to the girls about their Girl Scouting experiences and the different service projects they have worked on as a Girl Scout.
 
Rock the Mall was held on Saturday, June 9, where the Loveland Girl Scouts joined 250,000 other Girl Scouts from around the world on the National Mall. They met and traded Girl Scout SWAPS (Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere) with Girl Scouts from across the globe including Alaska, England, and Indonesia.

If you live in the Loveland School District and are interested in becoming a Girl Scout or volunteering to help lead a Girl Scout troop, contact the Loveland Girl Scouts by email or visit their website at for more information.  They are always looking for volunteers to help guide girls to be the next generation of leaders, and are currently placing new girls in troops for the 2012-2013 membership year.

Golf and Tennis Capture ECC Titles

The boys golf and girls tennis teams both captured Eastern Cincinnati Conference titles last week.

For girls tennis, it was a 10th league crown in the past 12 years. The team went undefeated in conference play and then won the ECC Tournament. The season highlight was the victory against rival Milford. “Last year we lost to them 0-5, and this year we won 3-2, so that was big for us,” said senior Katie Hoderlein. Katie is the last tennis player still competing for the Tigers after winning three matches at sectionals; she plays Saturday (Oct. 6) for the right to advance to districts.

Boys golf finished its regular season with an impressive 12-1 record, beating opponents like St. Xavier, Colerain, and Elder. It won the ECC championship at Glenview Golf Course, and three of the top four finishers competitors were Tigers, including medalist Isaac Vock (10).

Isaac said, “We were very dedicated during the preseason, and we played consistently well in competition. Not losing any seniors from last year was also a big help.”

On Thursday (Oct. 11), Isaac and teammates Reid Waddell, Brian Bullock, Perry Strong, and Zach Flege will compete at districts after coming in fourth at the sectional tournament.

Milford Offers Electronics Recycling and Document Shredding

Clermont County residents and businesses are invited to take advantage of two free events which will help you not only clean out old electronics and piles of outdated documents, it will also help the environment!  The city of Milford is holding an Electronics Recycling event and a Secure Document Shredding event on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Milford Municipal Building, located at 745 Center Street from 9 a.m. until noon.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio High School Athletic Association released its weekly football computer ratings Tuesday. The weekly computer ratings are released every Tuesday afternoon beginning after the fourth week of the season, leading up to the final report released on Sunday, Oct. 28. The top eight teams in each region will qualify for the regional quarterfinals.

The Loveland Tigers are #7 in Region Div. I, Region 4.

Loveland shut out Winton Woods last week, 14-0. They lost to Anderson on September 28, 28-21. They host Turpin on October 19.

Armed Forces Night at Tiger Stadium

Military veterans were honored with a short talk by Keith Maupin. Red white and blue fireworks exploded during the National Anthem.

The Tiger football team wore new camouflage jerseys, and coaches wore camo ball caps for the occasion.

Romney and Obama Compete for Sesame Street Voters

Loveland Shuts Out Winton Woods 14-0

Rain, driving wind and cold blew in midway through the first quarter, but abated when Quarterback Ricci Giovanni, replacing injured Ryne Terry scored on runs of 14 and 26 yards in the second half. He totaled 88 ground yards and Graham Peters contributed 79. Evan Burig contributed 2 extra points.

Loveland's remains 2-1 in conference play and 5-2 overall. They play at Walnut Hills (0-3, 3-4) on Friday.

Loveland Volleyball Heads Toward League Title

Senior Night Tuesday

The Loveland Lady Tigers continue on their quest to win the Eastern Cincinnati Conference.  They wrapped up this past week with three victories, including two key ECC conference wins against both The Milford Eagles and The Glen Este Trojans. The Tigers are currently tied with the Kings Knights for first place in the ECC at 7-2. 

The next Eastern Cincinnati Conference matchup is Tuesday, October 9 when  the Tigers host Walnut Hills.  At this match, they will also be celebrating Senior Night. 

Game time is 7 PM.  Six seniors with a combined sixteen years of varsity volleyball experience will be honored.  The seniors include #8 Lauren Blumberg, #1 Christy Flaherty, #2 Lindsey Flaherty, #15 Erin Mautino, #9 Kayla Senters and #5 Maddie Whitaker. Come on out and cheer the Loveland Lady Tigers to victory.

First Lady Michelle Obama Campaigns in Cincinnati

These LOVELAND MAGAZINE VIDEOS are from First Lady Michelle Obama's campaign appearance last Tuesday at the Duke Energy Convention Center. She talks about the man she "loves and admires." She and Cincinnatian Kristin Carlson talk about Obama Care. Carlson introduces her son Joseph and talks about the fear she used to have about continuing health care for her son who is recovering from cancer and a liver transplant. Obama talks about why Ohio is so important in the upcoming election, about herself and her husband growing up, what it takes to lead the country, and tells her fans why they are better off than four-years ago.

The speech by Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown is also here in it's entirety, as well as video of the thousands waiting to get inside to see the First Lady.

First Lady Michelle Obama appeared at the Duke Energy Convention Center last Tuesday before a crowd of 6,800. The energetic, and wildly enthusiast crowd; some were in line outside in the dark at 5:30 AM, long before they could enter the center, and long before Obama spoke later in the afternoon. The line, 4-5 deep in places along the sidewalk, reached almost three-fourths the way around the center at it peak. A rain fell late morning as they waited. The sidewalk Obama memorabilia hawkers with buttons and tees got out their supply of disposal rain ponchos and did a brisk business of both.

Inside, a bare, concrete floor, convention room slowly filled. Everyone went through air port like security before entering; a slow process. Bleachers for the 75 “chosen” directly behind center stage with chairs. Stage left another set of bleachers with chairs for 100. Far to the left three hundred feet to the far wall were bleachers where a group of College Hill youth, the Cincinnati Incomparable All-Stars, also known as the CIA Drill and Drum would entertain as the crowd waited. Drums, dance routines, and trumpets heralded.

The room filled, some of the early risers were able to stand within 25 feet of where the First Lady would speak, some no closer than 400 feet. They stood, waited excitedly, many heads bowed towards their mobile; texting friends and family where they were and that they had gotten inside.

To get as close as they could, many stood behind the press riser in the middle of the room that was about 75 feet from the speaker’s platform, peeking through the camera tripods and the legs of videographers and talking heads to get a closer view of Obama. One couple far in back of the convention hall found seats, elevated seats, on top of two very large trash containers. Twice, paramedics cooly meandered through the crowd, police radios glued to their ears receiving instructions to find people needing assistance.

First Lady fans held up “Moving Forward” signs as high as they could, hoping she would spot just that one adoring face of affection. The signs held so high, on tiptoes, said without words, “I love you Michelle. Please, please look my way. Please see the tears on my cheeks and how overjoyed I am today.”

After Obama spoke, thousands stayed and crowded to the front hoping to get a handshake, smile, or a closer photo of her, or better yet a photo of themselves with a person they adored. For the mixed, but mostly African American crowd, she was their first lady and they could not cheer loud enough to show the enormity of their pride.
