Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting
Jan 15, 6 PM
A special meeting of the Planning and Zoning Committee will be held on Tuesday, January 15th at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers. The purpose of the meeting is to set a public hearing for a proposed text amendment to the Zoning Code to add a Commercial Recreation Use to the L-1 Light Industrial District. The meeting is expected to last no more than 10 minutes. An agenda will be sent to you in advance of the meeting.
The above was sent to the Loveland Planning Commission members by Assistant City Manager, Gary Vidmar on January 9.
Allowing "Commercial Recreation" in the Light Industrial Districts is intended to allow, indoor shooting ranges in expanded areas of the city. There are two Light Industrial Districts, one is the Loveland Commerce Park with entrances from Union Cemetery Road, the other is on Kemper Road along the Little Miami River. Download Zoning map
This meeting is in response to direction given the Planning and Zoning Commission by a vote of Mayor Weisgerber, Vice-Mayor David Bednar, and council-members Paulette Leeper and Brenton Zuch at last Tuesday's city council meeting. (Council Votes to Expand Where Shooting Ranges Can Locate)
Next Tuesday's meeting is open to the public. The meeting is at Loveland City Hall at 120 West Loveland Avenue.
The public will be allowed to speak at this meeting.
You can review the agenda for the meeting as well as a memorandum about the proposed zoning change written by Assistant City Manager Gary Vidmar: Download P&Z Meeting 1_15_13.
An indoor shooting range is considered to be a commercial recreation use. Commercial recreation is currently a principally permitted use in the Business-Retail (B-R) and Business Corridor (B-C) districts and a conditional use in the Historic (H) district.
Commercial recreation is not currently a permitted use in the light industrial district.
“Principally Permitted” uses can operate in a zone without the city imposing conditions on the operations of the permitted business.
Steven Ling, of Symmes Township, has proposed operating a shooting range at 807 Loveland Madeira Road near the Loveland Elementary and Primary schools in the B-R District.
