February 28 Public Involvement Meeting will detail current progress and planned construction at I-71 interchange
A public involvement meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, February 28, 2013, to discuss the multiple improvements taking place at the Fields-Ertel and Mason Montgomery Road interchange at Interstate 71. At this meeting, local residents will have the opportunity to provide feedback and learn more about how project partners are working to ease congestion, expand access to business and shopping, and improve safety for all who travel through the Fields-Ertel/Mason-Montgomery Road area.
The meeting will be held at Deerfield Township Trustees Meeting Room, 4900 Parkway Drive, Suite 180, Mason, OH 45040. It will be organized in an open house format, so the public is welcome to attend any time during the 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. timeframe. A brief presentation and question and answer session will be held at 6:30 p.m.
“We are making phased improvements that will gradually and successfully address traffic issues in the Fields-Ertel area,” said Neil Tunison, Warren County Engineer. “Work has already begun in the Fields-Ertel and Mason-Montgomery Road area, and will continue in phases over the next several years.”
Tunison highlighted work that has already been completed in the area, including an additional northbound lane from Fields-Ertel to Parkway Drive, as well as the coordination of 22 traffic signals in the area, where upgraded computer controllers within the traffic signals allows signal timing to be coordinated more effectively so that traffic flows more easily
Upcoming improvements that will be detailed at the February 28 public meeting include:
- Loop Ramp construction that will allow northbound traffic on I-71 to by-pass the Fields-Ertel/Mason-Montgomery intersection and exit I-71 further north of the existing interchange
- A lane expansion at the northbound I-71 exit that will expand the exit lane and create more separation between freeway and exiting traffic
- An additional right turn lane onto Mason-Montgomery Road from the southbound I-71 exit
- Access Management improvements at Fields-Ertel and Gregory Road
