Loveland (It's more than a bike trail), Oh. - Loveland Herald/Enquirer reporter, Jason Hoffman broke the news July 3 at cincinnati.com that Loveland City Manager Thomas Carroll was recently a finalist for job in Cleveland.
Hoffman wrote, "Carroll finished second in the search for new city manager in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, following more than a year-long application process."
Hoffman also reported: "Councilwoman Paulette Leeper, who was a reference for Carroll, said it would have been a good move for Carroll."
Hoffman said, "Carroll isn’t looking for any other jobs and said that it’s not something he seeks out on a regular basis."
In March of 2012 when Carroll told city council that he was one of four finalist to get a job as Montgomery City Manager, he said, “…it is the only position in the only community I would consider leaving Loveland to accept.”
Then, in May after it was announced that Carroll did not get the job he told Council, “While my ego wishes I had had an offer, my heart is quite relieved to not have to make a choice. I never considered myself to be on the job market or looking – similar high quality city manager positions in Wyoming, Dublin and Upper Arlington have come open in the last eighteen months with nary a glance from me – and now am relieved to be able to simply redouble my efforts here at the City of Loveland.”
The next month, Council rewarded Carroll with a 5% raise, retroactive to the first of the year which included the period when he was seeking the Montgomery employment.
The next month, Carroll applied for another job. Loveland Magazine reported last November, that after Carroll got his raise, he applied to become city manager of Indian Hill.
Applicants for the Cleveland Heights job, according to clevelandheights.com included: Carrol, Richard White, Assistant Manager for Administrative and Community Services of Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County, Athens, Georgia, and Tanisha Briley an Assistant City Administrator in Davenport, Iowa, who was hired.
In Hoffman's article he asks, "If another city asked you about the job Tom Carroll has done as Loveland city manager, what would you tell them? Comment below or send your response to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com."
