Loveland, Oh. - Loveland singer/songwriter Tom Schickel will perform at the The Works in Downtown Loveland on Tuesday, October 15 from 7-9 PM. The Works is located at 20 Grear Millitzer Place in Downtown Loveland. Tom is on fall break from Otterbein University, where he is studying music. “It’s cool coming back to the Works,” he said. It’s one of the first places I played, and it’s where I had the release party for my album Living On.” Living On contains six original songs, and one Tom co-wrote with his friend Peter Stone.
Tom has been doing a solo piano gig since age 16. He mixes original works with songs by Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, and others. After high school he spent a gap year in Australia working as a teachers aide at the Friends School in Hobart. “It was an amazing experience,” said Tom. “The best thing was the friendships with the other gappies.” The “gappies” were the six other recent high school graduates from Germany, Ireland, England, and Australia who also worked as teachers aides in the school. Tom was the only American. They worked with students age four to sixteen both in the classroom setting and on outdoor excursions including camping trips. The gappies now stay in touch by Facebook and Skype, and are hoping for an Australian reunion in a few years.
In August Tom began college at Otterbein University in Westerville Ohio. “I am very excited about Otterbein,” Tom said. “They have a great program in music business. The music scholarship and other financial aid made it possible.”
