Milford, Oh. - Get ready for the holiday season by enjoying Grailville's International Creche Exhibit at the Promont House in Milford. Presented by the Greater Milford Area Historical Society (GMAHS), the Promont House, located at 906 Main St. in Milford, will host a Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 15, 1:30-4:30 PM. The event is free and open to the public.
Grailville will be showcasing a portion of it's over 90 internationally and regionally recognized unique crèche scenes for the The Milford Historical Society Holiday Open House at Promont House starting mid-November 2013 through January 12, 2014. This one of kind exhibit will feature crèches from Uganda, Tanzania and even as close to home as Loveland. Grailville's Program Manager, Terrie Puckett found the exhibit to be a great expression of Grailivlle's mission. She said, "Grailville is blessed with a long history in the creation and collection of liturgical art. The liturgical arts programs during the early years of Grailville was designed to provide images that help in our human search for meaning and deeper spirituality. This is a task that is wonderfully suited to The Grail, as the word grail itself means 'search.'"
"Earlier this year we initiated a local arts and history collaborative," commented Donna Amann, administrator, Greater Milford Area Historical Society. "We wanted to bring together a number of organizations who are interested in working collaboratively to offer enhanced programming to the community. The relationship with Grailville resulted from that initiative, and we're pleased to partner with them on bringing the crèche exhibit to Promont."
The Holiday Open House will also feature a collection of antique toys; and, Promont will be decorated using items depicting the natural things that would have been available to Victorians, such as pine cones, nuts, trees and greens, and feathers from local game birds.
"The house is at its finest during the holidays, and this year the decorating committee has decided to augment the Victorian-oriented natural decorations with glittering elements that will allow the house to sparkle," continued Amann. "It's a wonderful opportunity to bring the family and experience holiday traditions from the Victorian era. We will have the first floor open for self-guided tours during the Holiday Open House; and, GMAHS volunteers will be available to answer questions."
Visitors to the Holiday Open House will also enjoy a variety of special offers including:
- A special discounted rate on 2014 membership to the Greater Milford Area Historical Society (details available only at the Open House).
- One FREE admission for two adults to Promont House Museum. This ticket (one per family) can be used at a future date for a docent-led tour during regular museum hours.
- One free raffle ticket (with the purchase of at least six tickets/$5) good toward a beautifully dressed 18-inch doll complete with a full Victorian ice skating outfit and skates. The drawing will be held at 4:30 PM on December 15.
"We are excited to bring the exceptional crèche exhibit to Promont, and we're looking forward to hosting the public during our Holiday Open House," commented Amann.
