Primarily in the northern subdivisions of Paxton Woods and Miami Trails
Miami Township, Oh. - The Miami Township Police Department has recently handled several reports of theft of mail from residential mailboxes - likely targeting checks. So far, this has primarily been occurring in the northern subdivisions such as Paxton Woods and Miami Trails at various hours throughout the day and overnight. There may be other areas and/or victims that haven't reported this or are unaware that this has happened. Possible suspect information that has been reported is a white male in a newer model, dark colored full-sized sedan.
What can you do? You can immediately report all suspicious subjects and/or vehicles in your neighborhood by calling 732-2231. Obtain the best description possible without putting yourself in harm's way. Consider dropping mail directly at the post office or at one of the USPS locked collection boxes. Avoid putting outgoing mail in overnight and collect delivered mail as soon as possible.
If you are notified or find that a payment wasn't received, check to see if it cleared your bank. If it did and has been altered or forged by an unauthorized party, report it to police by calling 732-2231. If you are expecting to receive something (such as a tax refund check, etc.) that has not arrived within an appropriate amount of time, verify when it was mailed and report that to the police as well.
