“Unbelievable that the Army Corp of Engineers is going to open up the floodgates at Caesars Creek and dump over 2500 cfs of water into the Little Miami this weekend! People, it will be too high and dangerous to be on, in, or around!” – Dirk Morgan

Canoe liveries along the Little Miami River from Ft. Ancient to Loveland are warning of dangerous river levels and conditions this weekend.

Loveland Canoe and Kayak has posted on their Facebook page that they regret to announce that they will be closed this Saturday and Sunday.

The Post says, “The US Army Corps of Engineers has decided to release a large amount of water from the dam at Caesar’s Creek. The release will run throughout the entire weekend and significantly impact the water levels and flow of the Little Miami.”

The Core of Engineers has informed liveries that their release will be 2,500 CFS. This volume will bring the total river flow to approximately 3,500 – 3,700 CFS throughout the weekend.

Loveland Canoe and Kayak warn, “The water is coming from the bottom of the lake, so it’s also very cold.” The combination of cold and swift water creates a dangerous situation for recreational paddlers so please avoid getting on the river this weekend.”

Dirk Morgan the Vice President at Morgans Canoe and Outdoor Adventures said on his personal Facebook page that he finds it, “Unbelievable that the Army Corp of Engineers is going to open up the floodgates at Caesars Creek and dump over 2500 cfs of water into the Little Miami this weekend! People, it will be too high and dangerous to be on, in, or around!”

Morgan is encouraging people to call the ODNR, Dept of Watercraft and their state representatives and tell them this is ridiculous and dangerous. “This release can wait till Monday? They are endangering lives,” Morgan said. He also said that the release of water from the dam will make the river dangerously high for any commercial operations and they will shut down. “Unfortunately little or nothing is being done on the part of the state to inform the general public or even local fire and rescue departments of the alarming conditions that are needlessly being created,” said Morgan.
