Cincinnati, Ohio – For the second year in a row, the Cincinnati-based Hatton Foundation has given the Green Beret Foundation (GBF) a $100,000 donation to ignite support in 2020. The Hatton Foundation’s grant of $100,000 in 2019 enabled GBF to establish the Hatton Healing and Recovery Fund, which covers the cost of innovative therapies and devices for injured and ill Green Berets and their family members. The grant was initiated through the work of the Cincinnati Supporters of Green Beret Foundation and GBF board member Mrs. Fran Wesseling.

The Green Beret Foundation is a national non-profit organization dedicated to supporting soldiers of the U.S. Army Special Forces (commonly known as Green Berets) and their families. Due to the ongoing nature of our current wars and military interventions around the world, Green Berets sustain a grueling deployment schedule, and have the highest casualty rate of any branch of Special Operations Forces (SOF) in the military. These soldiers return home from duty with myriad and life-altering physical, emotional, and psychological injuries, and they do so at a rate which exhausts and exceeds U.S. Government resources.
As the Green Berets who first joined the military in the wake of the September 11 attacks approach their twentieth year of service, many will be retiring with extensive medical needs. Wounded and retiring Green Berets continue to face mounting medical expenses—in need of therapies, treatments, and adaptive equipment not covered by military insurance or VA benefits—and travel expenses related to treatment present additional considerations, rarely covered by Government resources. The summation of these factors often leads to a barrier to care for many members of the Green Beret community.
This is why, in 2019, the Hatton Healing and Recovery Fund was established.
This is why, in 2019, the Hatton Healing and Recovery Fund was established, subsequently enabling the Green Beret Foundation to provide over $100,000 of care and support to the Special Forces community in its first year. The fund has enabled the Green Beret Foundation to purchase equipment and provide specialized, life-saving, and life- altering services to over 55 medically recovering Green Berets. Chemotherapy, adjustable beds, high-percussive massagers, IDEO braces, and heel-wedge devise are just a sampling of the therapies and equipment either not covered or insufficiently covered by Government funding sources that the Hatton Healing and Recovery Fund has made possible.

The Hatton Foundation is an independent grant-making foundation established by E. Kenneth Hatton, M.D. upon his death in 1997. Dr. Hatton was a general practitioner with an office in Bond Hill. 3RD ANNUAL STEPS ‘N SALUTES 5K in Loveland
Loveland, Ohio – Celebration, patriotism, family and community fun, and charity benefits are all ingredients for the third annual Steps and Salutes Green Beret 5k taking place in downtown Loveland on September 13, 2020! The 5K race will kick off the start of the Cincinnati Green Beret Classic events to raise donations for the Green Beret Foundation and to remind the public of the US Army Special Forces Green Berets – America’s Quiet Professionals – who continue fighting the global war on terror. Please join us and cross the finish line where the race ends but the Green Beret mission continues!

Kicking off the exciting event will be a Green Beret inspired start on the course which is very flat and fast. The September date offers cool temps and is perfect for runners and walkers of all abilities. Strollers are permitted – love to have the entire family participate!
This is also a GORUCK event so all GORUCKERS are encouraged to be a part of this exciting morning – and earn your patch!
All finishers will receive a most unique medal earmarking their crossing the finish line! All Kids Fun Runners will receive a patriotic dog tag medal and popsicles! All finishers can also celebrate their accomplishment by hanging an American flag onto the Red, White, and Blue banner at the event!

No matter whether your team is joining as a business, an organization, or just a group of friends, enter your team name in the registration form or submit that name and we can get it on the form for your group! Top two Overall Men and Women finishers, Age Group Awards, and this new Team Award with a Green Beret focus will be presented at the awards ceremony taking place at Nisbet Park.
Enjoy your accomplishments and share your stories during the post-race party in Nisbet Park with complimentary refreshments with your family, friends and other runners and walkers after you cross the finish line!

Green Beret inspired awards will be presented to the top two overall finishers for men and women at the award ceremonies taking place at Nisbet Park at 11:00 a.m.
Age group awards will be presented to the top 2 men and women in the following age groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74; 75-79; 80+
