The District made this decision following the March 11 briefing on the Coronavirus situation by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, who provided general guidance to only gather for what is necessary. In regards to K-12 education, Governor DeWine has asked all districts to be prepared for online learning; he assured all educational leaders that the Ohio Department of Education will work with all districts regarding state testing requirements.

As we communicated to you Wednesday, March 11, the District made a decision to use Monday, March 16 as a day to practice online learning within our District. This means:

• Students will not come to buildings this day, but will receive instruction from teachers online. Because Monday is considered a school day and a practice for distance learning, extra-curricular activities in grades 7-12 will proceed as scheduled unless you are notified by your child’s coach/advisor. Extra-curricular activities/clubs in grades K-6 will be cancelled. Please note: You will receive an email from the building principal with additional details concerning this day.

• Staff members will report to work, and the faculty will be at school and available to answer any questions about the online learning module presented.

Again, there are two purposes to our practice day. First, it is important to us that all students have access to instruction if Indian Hill Schools were in a position of delivering our students’ education in a distance-learning model. By having this practice day, each family will be able to participate in a distance-learning activity and provide feedback to us about its success. Second, the practice day also serves as a day for teachers to adjust instructional units that are typically delivered in the classroom in a face-to-face manner and can now be delivered through distance learning modules.

We want to reinforce that the safety and security of our students and staff are always of paramount importance to our Board of Education and our administrative team. The Indian Hill School District health professionals continue to actively engage with all Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) briefings and update the administrative team.

In addition to refining our online learning capabilities, as a District, here is what we are doing:
• Our custodial teams are working diligently to ensure classrooms are thoroughly cleaned daily in each building, and disinfecting surfaces.
• Our teachers will also be working directly with students on education about the importance of hand washing, and, especially in our buildings with younger students, we are a.
