It’s Time for a Loveland Spring Sports 411 Update!

Loveland, Ohio – The beautiful weather is here and the Loveland High School student-athletes are taking full advantage of that as Spring Sports are in 1st place for the Eastern Cincinnati Conference (ECC) All-Sports Trophy!

Currently, with all of the 2020-2021 sports seasons combined the Loveland Tigers are in 2nd place for the ECC All-Sports Trophy with a total of 190 points. LHS Athletics earned 74 points for Fall Sports, 61.5 for Winter Sports, and 54.5 thus far for Spring Sports. Turpin is in 1st place with 191.3 points.

Although 2020 threw many obstacles at high school athletes all across Ohio, 2021 has proven to be quite the success in the athletics world as student-athletes have been able to practice, compete, and secure a bit of normalcy. The LHS Spring Sports student-athletes most certainly welcomed competing again with open arms as several Tiger Spring Sports teams are having very successful seasons. So without further ado, here is your Loveland Sports 411 update with Me, Cassie Mattia!

BASEBALL

The Loveland Men’s Baseball Team fought hard this season competing against some very talented teams within the ECC. The Tigers finished 8-11 in the ECC and 12-15 overall.

On Tuesday, May 18th Loveland (23 seed) played 10th seed Kings in their 1st post-season match-up. Although the Tigers gave it everything they could, Loveland lost 3-0.

The Tigers did have a top-performer this year who landed in the top 5 with his individual stats in the ECC. Senior Zachary Bebout secured the number 5 spot with 4 Wins as a Pitcher.

Turpin won the 2020-2021 ECC Baseball Title. The All-Conference teams have yet to be announced.

SOFTBALL

The Loveland Women’s Softball Team finished near the middle of the ECC this year with a 6-12 record within the conference and a 6-15 record overall.

On Monday, May 10th the Tigers traveled to Seton for their 1st post-season game. Loveland lost 11 – 8 but bounced back on Tuesday with a victory against Anderson, 15 – 8. The Tiger Softball team competed in 3 additional games last week against Walnut Hills, winning 8 – 3, Kings, losing 6 – 1, and Lebanon, losing 22 – 3.

Lebanon and Milford tied for the 2020-2021 ECC Softball Champions Title. The All-Conference teams have yet to be announced.

Some of our times below in the EEC Women’s and Men’s Track and Field Championship are being double checked against the final results provided by Ohio Mile Split.

WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

The Loveland Women’s Track and Field team won the ECC Title for the 2nd year in a row!

Loveland captured 1st place at the 2021 ECC Championships with 142 points.

Madison Conatser placed 3rd with a time of 2:18.70 in the 800-meter dash and Jessie Gibbons placed 2nd with a time of 2:18.86.

Gibbons also placed 4th in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 5:08.13.

Emmy Sager secured the 2nd place spot in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 11:09.44 and Sarah Madix placed 5th with a time of 11:28.80.

Nicole Dierling won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.73.

Mikayla Loomis finished 1st in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 47.44 and Ally Colegate was second with a time of 47.75.

Loveland’s “A” team placed 4th in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 52.16 and in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:48.21.

Loveland’s “A” team grabbed the 1st place spot in the 4×800 meter relay with a time of 9:21.04.

Nicole Dierling placed 2nd in the High Jump with a jump of 4’11”. Maya Jepson reached 4’08”.

Nia Gruffydd placed 2nd in the Pole Vault with an 11′ vault. Lily Gruffydd was 7th and vaulted 8′.

Sydney Keil placed 5th in the Long Jump with a 15-09.50 jump. Makaela Feldman reached 15-07.00.

Sophia Kapszukiewicz placed 3rd in the Shot Put with a throw of 37-6.00 and 5th in the Discus with a 95-08 throw.

Senior Miya Brines had an excellent 2020-2021 season securing 5 1st place positions in the ECC for her personal stats. Brines placed at the top of the ECC in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.32, the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.27, the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.39, the High Jump with a 5’06.50″ jump, and the Long Jump with a 17’10.05″ jump. Loveland also finished at the top of the ECC in the 3,200-meter relay with a time of 9:21.04.

The ECC All-Conference teams have yet to be announced.

Several Track and Field Tigers will begin competing today at 4 PM through Friday, May 21st at the 2021 OHSAA Southwest District Division 1 Tournament at Mason High School.

MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

The Loveland Men’s Track and Field team had a fantastic season winning the 2020-2021 ECC Title and breaking some conference records along the way!

The Tigers won the 2021 ECC Championships with 174.3 points capturing several top 5 finishes.

Dylan Schwinn won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.68 while his teammate Teddy Andrews finished in 4th place with a time of 23.56.

JP Tew came in 2nd in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.14, and Jesse Jenkins grabbed the 5th spot with a time of 52.62.

Ajay Stutz finished 3rd the 800-meter dash clocking a time of 1:59.23 and Brady Steiner finished 4th with a 1:59.54.

Ryan Chevalier secured a 2nd place finish in the 1,600 meter run with a time of 4:18.49 and Brady Steiner placed 4th with a time of 4:21.68.

Ryan Chevalier also grabbed the 2nd place finish in the 3,200 meter run with a time of 9:38.98 and Tiger Cayden Dyer placed 3rd place with a time of 9:39.48.

Aaron Scheutter placed 3rd in the 110-meter hurdles clocking a 16.18 and grabbed 1st place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.08.

Max Flanders finished 3rd in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 41.95.

Loveland’s “A” team placed 2nd in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 44.50 and placed 1st in the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:31.66.

Loveland’s “A” squad also won the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:30.79 and won the 4×800 meter relay clocking an 7:52.73.

Ryan Hetzel won High Jump with 6-01.00 jump and Grant McWaters placed 2nd with a jump of 6-.00.

Dylan Schwinn grabbed 2nd place in the Long Jump with a 20-08.75 jump.

Gabe Ogdan placed 2nd in the Discus Throw with a 149-03 throw.

Brady Steiner, JP Tew, Ajay Stutz, and Ryan Chevalier accomplished a big feat this season breaking the ECC record in the 3,200-meter relay with a time of 7:52.73.

The All-Conference teams have yet to be announced.

MEN’S TENNIS

The Loveland Men’s Tennis Team finished in 4th place in the ECC for the 2020-2021 season with a 5-3 record in the conference and an 11-6 record overall. Loveland collected 7.0 points during the regular season and 6.0 points in the tournament rounding out the season with 13.0 total points.

The Tigers finished right in the middle of the pack in 5th place at the ECC Tournament with 32 points. Ethan Libby placed 5th in First Singles while teammate Ethan Sproull placed 5th in 2nd Singles. Aiden Callahan grabbed a 4th place finish in 3rd Singles. Joey Kapszukiewicz and Helge Harris placed 5th in First Doubles and Max Jody and Will Parker finished 4th in 2nd Doubles.

The Men’s Tennis team had some fantastic performances by some individual Tigers all placing in the top 5 in the ECC with their personal stats. Ethan Libby ended the season in 3rd place in the ECC for 1st Singles with a 4-3 conference record (9-7 overall), Max Jody placed 4th in the ECC in 2nd Singles with a 5-2 conference record (10-4 overall), and Aiden Callahan finished 4th in the ECC in 3rd Singles with a 5-3 conference record (12-4 overall).

Anderson and Walnut Hills tied for the 2020-2021 ECC Title. The All-Conference team selections have yet to be announced.

OHSAA’s 101st Annual Men’s State Tennis Tournament will be held at 9 AM on May 28th and 29th at the Linder Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.

MEN’S LACROSSE

The Loveland Men’s Lacrosse team had an unbelievable 2020-2021 season placing 2nd in the ECC with a 7-1 conference record and 11-7 record overall!

Many Tennis Tigers landed in the top 5 in the ECC for their individual performances for the 2020-2021 season. Junior Zach Mulligan placed 2nd in Offensive Goals with 46 and in Assists with 31. Junior Sam Neiger finished 2nd in Draw Controls with 187 and Will Westermeyer grabbed the 5th spot for Defensive Saves with 144. Ethan Lund finished the season in 1st place in Caused Turnovers with 54 while teammate Jackson Noe placed 3rd with 36.

The Tigers will compete next in the 1st round of the OHSAA post-season tournament as the 7th seed today at 6 PM at LHS against the 10th seed Elder. The winner will play St. X, the number 3 seed, on May 21st. The time and location are TBA.

The ECC Title went to Milford this year. The All-Conference selections have yet to announced.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

The Loveland Women’s Lacrosse team secured the ECC 2020-2021 Championship Title finishing with an undefeated 7-0 conference record and a 14-4 overall record!

Loveland not only collected an ECC Title the team also had several individuals that finished in the top 5 in the ECC for their own stats. Senior  Carly Wilhoite had an incredible season placing 1st in Goals with 60, 1st in Assists with 35, and 2nd in Draw Controls with 76. Senior Hanna Wenger finished 4th in Goals with 40, and 2nd in Assists with 29. Katie Beasley placed 3rd in Assists with 28 and Tiger teammate Josey Storm finished 5th with 18 Assists and 4th in Draw Controls with 50. Storm also grabbed the 4th spot in Interceptions with 8. Maggie Nance placed 3rd in the ECC in Saves collecting 151.

The Tigers played the 1st round of the OHSAA post-season tournament on Tuesday, May 18th on their home field against Mercy McAuley winning 23-3. The Loveland Women’s Lacrosse team will be competing in the post-season tournament as the selected number 1 seed on May 21st at 6 PM against 7th seed Lakota East at Loveland High School.
