Kurt Fritzsche, who was in second place at the start of the final round with $13,600, wagered just $399, giving him a total of $13,201 at the end of the show and bragging rights as a “Jeopardy” champion.

Fritzsche, who lives now in Loveland, Ohio, shared a story about his wife during a brief exchange with host Alex Trebek.

Potential contestants are on the list for about 18 months, and were told not to expect a call until at least July. Loveland resident, a Navy veteran, and medical device engineer for Johnson & Johnson, Kurt Fritzsche got a call Sept. 30 that he had been invited to compete.

Four weeks later, Fritzsche was flying out to Sony Picture Studios in Los Angeles.
