Leah Jordan and Team Love the Love 2.0 raised $22K for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Dear Loveland Magazine Readers,
The “Student of the Year” for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) grand finale took place Friday, March 24th at the Newport Aquarium. Although I did not win the title, “Student of the Year,” my team and I placed in the top 3 of 18 other candidates/teams and are proud to announce that we raised $21,979.13!
I was also awarded a $500 citizenship award for my commitment to the LLS mission.
I have many people to thank for our success, including everyone who bought t-shirts, made a donation, sent well wishes, donated items for our silent auction, and/or hosted an event.
I would especially like to think David Miller of Loveland Magazine for supporting and writing about our events and our successes, Grand Sands Volleyball Club for allowing us to sell t-shirts and collect donations, and Xtreme Limo for donating a 27 passenger party bus for Team Love the Love 2.0 for the grand finale,
Also, I am especially grateful to Peter Sexton for designing the Team Love the Love 2.0 t-shirts, Mason Boulton for printing the shirts, the Loveland High School student council for hosting a dodgeball tournament, and the staff at Loveland Intermediate and Middle Schools, especially Ms. Rose, Mr. Chmiel, and Mr. Federman, for also hosting dodge ball tournaments.
Mr. Ernst and his student council members for hosted a Loveland IntermediateSchool dance. My cousin, Principal Darin Prince, donated the proceeds from his Valentines Day sucker sale.
Also, my thanks goes to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, especially Molly Rebholz, Roseann Hayes, and Tom Carleton, for giving me this amazing opportunity, my unbelievably amazing team, Team Love the Love 2.0, for joining me in my fight for cure by supporting me and helping me raise funds and awareness. And, most importantly my mom because I couldn’t have done it without her.
Overall, the Student of the Year candidates raised over $163,000 – crushing LLS’s goal of $29,000.
I feel truly blessed to have been a part of this experience. My team and I grew so much closer. I met people who I have no doubt I will be friends with for life. I learned so much about fundraising, networking, and spreading awareness, and I got to raise a bunch of money for a cause that is so close to my heart.
Again, thank you everyone who supported me on this journey!
