Loveland, OhioOn March 1, Loveland High School’s FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Team 10464 The Bionic Tigers competed at the Maryland-D.C. FTC Championship at the Carroll County Agriculture Center in Westminster, Maryland. 54 teams competed for 6 advancements spots for the FTC World Championship, held in Detroit, Michigan. These teams represented 7 different states and districts across the U.S., including Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Starting off the competition, The Bionic Tigers presented to judges about their team’s involvement with industry professionals, community outreach, robot design, programming, and other related topics which were evaluated for awards. Following that, they competed in five qualifying matches in the Kalhert Division. After competing in five qualifying matches, it was time for the awards ceremony.

The Bionic Tigers first received the 3rd place Promote Award, 2nd place Think Award, 2nd place Motivate Award, 1st place Connect Award, and finally, the 3rd place Inspire Award which advanced them to the FIRST World Championship where they will represent the top 4% of FTC teams throughout the world. This is the first time in The Bionic Tigers’ 5 year history that they have advanced to the World Championship.

This is the Bionic Tigers’ 5th season, with 13 team members spanning from high school freshman to high school senior. The team is split into three different subteams, Build, Programming, and Business, all led by Nathan Stewart.

Note: As of the recent pandemic COVID-19, the FTC World Championship has been canceled, ending FIRST seasons across the world.
