vision-ArtLoveland, Ohio – Joan Ruschman, a licensed art teacher for grades K – 12 has started her life-long dream of creating a space where kids, including those with special needs, can come and experience the magical world of creating art.

Newly opened in Loveland, across the street from the Loveland Primary and Elementary school campus, and three doors from the Loveland Library, VisionArts studio is offering a wide variety of art adventures for children ages 3 – 17.

Also, we will have open studios that will run every Saturday afternoon this summer for three hours – for a discount price of just $15, children 5 to 12 years-old are welcome to come and make whatever they want.”

The process of making art in an open-ended way expands children’s creativity in VisionArts nurturing and fun environment. Not only do they explore different art materials and techniques, they also see how artists around the world have used their creativity in making the most amazing works of art.  Most importantly, each child discovers how their creativity positively affects not only themselves but each other and the world around them.

Critical Thinking
Critical thinking for all age groups involves trying new things, making mistakes, and figuring out by themselves how to solve a problem. Creating open-ended art does this in a non-threatening and non-judgmental way. Children exercise this thinking by working through what their final piece will look like and how they want to make it. This in turn makes them more confident and adaptable when new situations arise. Developing this confidence is crucial in giving children the courage to try new solutions.

Collaboration
In each 7-10 week Art Adventure, as well as during Summer Camps, the children are encouraged to make one collaborative art piece from start to finish with some directed guidelines and a lot of creative brainstorming. Deciding what they will do and how they will make it helps them really practice collaborative skills with their peers of all different multiple talents.

Thoughtful Communication
VisionArts builds face-to-face communication skills through collaborative projects, having the chance to talk about their art work with their peers, and intriguing discussions about the world of art. Children have the opportunity in a non -threatening and fun atmosphere to build their self confidence and express their thoughts.Ruschman has taught art for the past 9 years in private art studios for children, as well as public and private schools, including Indian Hill Primary and Princeton Middle School. Ruschman has taught summer art camps at the Cincinnati Art Museum and volunteered over the years at Children’s Hospital art therapy room. She said that teaching children with special needs of all different ages and disabilities has been a joy and pleasure for her. She received a Visual Art Licensure through DAAP at the University of Cincinnati and is a licensed art teacher for grades K – 12.[/quote_box_left]

Also teaching at VisionArts is, D.J. Berard. She has received a recent MFA in Painting and Studio Arts from Lindenwood University, a BS in Arts Education from Indiana University, and Graduate work in Arts Education at the University of South Carolina. Berard teaches adults, undergraduate students, students with Autism, AP studio arts, and Jr High and High School students. She said that K-12 art has kept her  busy over the years.

Berard said, “We want to let parents know they can have a stolen afternoon while your kids have a great time for three-hours making art. They can take advantage of Loveland’s wonderful restaurants, shops, and bike trail or just get your errands done.”
